Jean (Smith) Sabol

Jean Sabol, 100, of Drums, passed away December 20, 2025, at Fritzingertown Senior Living Community in Drums.

Born in Jeddo, November 5, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William T. and Carrie (Shanno) Smith and had spent most of her life in Drums after moving from Hazleton.

Jean was a 1943 graduate of Hazleton High School and a 1946 graduate of the Hazleton State Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for Hazleton General and an Office Nurse and Nutrition Manager for Butler Twp Senior Center. She was a member of Faith UCC, Hazleton. She was also a member of the Hazleton General Hospital Alumni Assoc., an honorary member of the PA Nurses Assoc., was treasurer of the Luzerne County District Nurses Assoc., and a member of the Butler Twp Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Edward B. Sabol; a brother, Emory Smith and cousins, Catherine Pengelly, and Robert Shanno.

Her funeral will be held with a graveside service in the chapel of Calvary Cemetery, Drums on Friday December 26, 2025 at 12:30 pm. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East), 669 W Butler Drive, Drums is assisting with arrangements.
